Opteron

The AMD Opteron processor for servers and workstations in the business sector belongs to the eighth generation of processors and employs 0.13 micrometer technology. The new x86-64 technology used by the Opteron supports 32-bit applications, as well as future 64-bit applications. It should be on the market during the first half of 2003. The Desktop variation of this processor currently bears the code name "Clawhammer". The official trade name will still be AMD Athlon, but with an ending that has not yet been publicised. Market launch is planned for the end of 2002.
