Northbridge

The usual chipset on the motherboard is generally divided into Northbridge and Southbridge. However, a physical separation into two components is not necessarily required, which means that they can be contained in one chip.

The Northbridge (host) controls data streams between the processor, cache and working memory. Modern systems also have a Northbridge connection to the AGP, the slot for the graphic card.
Moreover, the entire bus system, along with the PCI-to-ISA bridge is connected to the Northbridge.
