The motherboard is a central board that controls everything.

The processor that controls all devices is located on the motherboard. The processor also gets its power from the motherboard.

The motherboard also contains the PCI slots, ISA slots and an AGP slot. The hard disk, CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive and disk drive are also connected to the motherboard.

USB devices, the mouse and keyboard can also be connected to the motherboard.
There are a number of different motherboard vendors. ASUS and Gigabyte are the most well known vendors.

For more information about the motherboard, also see the entries "Northbridge" and "Southbridge" in the computer dictionary.
