K6-K6-2

K6 was a high performance alternative to Intel processors, such as, for example, the Pentium processor.

In contrast to the competitor's product, the K6 processor required a socket to operate - the so-called "Super Socket 7" - instead of a slot that is required to run the Pentium II processor.

The K6 is no longer available and has been superseded by the K6-2.

The innovative feature of the K6-2 was the 3DNow command set, which provided the K6-2 processor with an additional burst of speed.

The K6-2 is also out of production. A new generation of processors has been born: the AMD Athlon processor.
