Hub

A hub is a device that is used to connect a network with a star topology.

All data (in the form of electrical signals) is forwarded to all of the devices (connected using a patch cable). A switch, on the other hand, only forwards the data to the segment where the destination computer is.

A passive hub simply connects the network branches whereas an active hub amplifies the signals.
