Host

The term host refers to all computers on the Internet that can connect with other computers in both directions (send/receive).

The computer has two unique numbers, a MAC address at the hardware level and an IP address at the software level. Without these unique addresses data could not be delivered, just like in real life.

In other usage, a host usually refers to a device that provides services for other devices (e.g., SCSI host adapter).
