HTTP

"HTTP" (acronym for "HyperText Transfer Protocol") is the transfer protocol used to transfer HTML documents on the World Wide Web.

The current version of HTTP is 1.1. It includes a number of features such as a LastModified date that allows a browser to avoid downloading data from the server if the document has not changed since the user's last visit.

There are two types of transfer methods for documents in HTTP: GET and POST. While the GET command is used to transfer most files to the client, POST is used to send large forms or to upload files to the server.

HTTP is 'spoken' by all Web browsers and servers.
