HTML

"HTML" (acronym for "HyperText Markup Language") is the authoring language used to create documents on the World Wide Web. The current version is 4.0.

HTML consists of a series of ASCII characters in which special formatting commands are embedded for the page layout, font types and multimedia elements, etc.

Special commands indicate hypertext links that can be used to jump to other elements in the current document or to other documents elsewhere on the Net.

To access and read HTML documents, an application program (Web browser) is required.

Add-ins, or plug-in programs can be used to display embedded graphics, play sounds or view videos.
Currently there are a large number of efforts to expand HTML.

DHTML makes the Internet more dynamic; XML or XHTML have been designed to replace HTML.
