FAT
"FAT" (the acronym for "File Allocation Table") is a type of file administration used by Microsoft operating systems.
For each cluster on the disk, there is an entry in the FAT.
A file is recorded as a series of clusters; these clusters do not have to be located one after the other.
The operating system allocates the required clusters to a file. This is the reason for disk fragmentation.
