BIOS

"BIOS" is the acronym for "Basic Input/Output System".

For the most part, it is the intermediary program between software and hardware - for example, when the current system time is requested.

The BIOS is specially designed for the computer's particular motherboard and, as a result, can only be used with a specific motherboard type (with few exceptions).

The settings for some hardware components, including the hard drive, CPU and RAM, are made in the BIOS. These settings are stored in CMOS RAM and then read and applied each time the computer starts.
