ATX

ATX is a design format for motherboards, which was specified by Intel. Unlike its predecessor (Baby AT), the motherboard has been rotated 90º in the housing.

The current specifications (2.1) address various requirements:
1.Shorter cabling to the hard drives to achieve faster data transfer rates (PIO 4).
2.Improved CPU ventilation with CPU fans and external case fans.
3.Automatic start-up capabilities in order to receive faxes, for example.
